Kilgeever Parish Church Music Scholarship

Kilgeever Parish will sponsor one individual, from September 2021 to June 2022 with the Louisburgh Music School for piano tuition along with an introduction to organ playing.

Open to applicants age 12 and upwards only (including adults); there is no upper age limit.

Applicants must be resident within the boundaries of Kilgeever parish.

Aims and Purpose of the Scholarship:

This Church Music Scholarship, awarded by Kilgeever Parish, is intended to encourage and support liturgical music within the parish community. It will provide an opportunity for a local musician, with a genuine interest in contributing to the Parish, to develop her/his abilities in piano and organ playing, accompanying and liturgical music.

The successful applicant will receive piano tuition at Louisburgh Music School from September 2021 to June 2022 (individual lessons in piano technique, repertoire and sight- reading), as well as an introduction to organ-playing at St Patrick’s Church, Louisburgh (to include organ technique, pedal-playing and registration). Tuition will also be provided in accompanying skills, along with guidance on the role of church music in the liturgy, in a parish context.
